A+ Australian Wine Team Blog
Every year, the embassies in DC open their doors to the public to showcase their respective countries. This year, Open Embassy Day landed on Cinco de Mayo on a steamy day in DC and the Australian Embassy was packed to the rafters!
This year, Open Embassy Day landed on Cinco de Mayo and the Australian Embassy was packed with people eager to try Vegemite(?), listen to the didgeridoo and sample some fine Australian wine. With doors open from 10-4pm, over 4,000 people passed through the Australian Embassy with at least 20 deep at each wine table for the entire 6 hours! It was a fun day and even though not everyone loved the Vegemite, they absolutely loved the wines. Being a typically steamy May day in DC, the moscatos were a huge hit as were all the light whites. We poured a great selection of wines, with the following being poured:
- Angove Nine Vines South Australia Moscato
- Innocent Bystander Victoria Pink Moscato
- Yalumba Y Series South Australia Vermentino
- St Hallett Poachers Blend Barossa Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc/Riesling
- d'Arenberg Hermit Crab McLaren Vale Viognier/Marsanne
- Jacob's Creek Reserve Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
- Yalumba The Strapper Barossa Grenache/Shiraz/Mataro
- Yalumba Y Series South Australia Shiraz/Viognier
- St Hallett Faith Barossa Shiraz
- Angove Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
