Story about: The Horgan Family, Winegrowers, Margaret River

The special marriage of fine wine, food and the arts has been a successful union at Leeuwin Estate, a Margaret River family winery with an outstanding international reputation. A creative mind and a passion for surfing became the catalyst for Denis Horgan and his wife Tricia, to purchase the land that was to become Leeuwin.

With their four children, the Horgans enjoyed family holidays in the farmhouse with its proximity to exceptional surf beaches until 1972 when legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the property as ideal for producing premium new world wines. With Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor during its establishment, Leeuwin Estate became the fifth founding winery of this now famous region.

Artworks commissioned from Australia's leading contemporary artists adorn the labels of the "Art Series" wines and the collection of more than 100 paintings adorn the gallery and restaurant walls. In 1985 the Leeuwin Concert Series was launched and each summer the world's most outstanding musical artists from sopranos and tenors - to Sting and Roxy Music - perform spectacular alfresco concerts.
