Vintage is one of the busiest times of the year for any winery. Grapes are harvested around the clock with the grapes picked at their peak of ripening and winemakers immediately beginning the process of turning them into wine.
Not many wine lovers have the opportunity to experience the vintage process and to participate in the work behind the drink. Last month 100 Chinese guests were invited by Wine Australia to experience the Australian vintage first hand. The guests were sent to 16 different wine regions across Australia, spread across from Margaret River to Hunter Valley with all our wine regions rolling out the red carpet – despite the busy vintage period being in full swing.
The guests spent a week visiting a total of 200 wineries, learning about A+ Australian wine and vintage, as well as having the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in our culture, our people and our stories. Guests spent the days helping wineries with vintages, including picking, de-stemming, crushing and pressing the grapes.
It was an opportunity to demonstrate the diversity of Australian wine and the very different vintage experiences across Australia’s wine regions.
Returning to China as ambassadors of Australian wine, each of these 100 guests can now share their stories of the experience, and new knowledge of A+ Australian wines with colleges, friends and family.
